The  Teardrop Trailer is old technology with a modern flair.

The first teardrop were built in the early 1930's in Southern California. Their popularity soared after WWll, fueled by returning vets restless to travel on a shoestring budget. Roads were improving and tow vehicles were affordable. Post War builders often used war surplus steel from the chassis of scrapped combat aircraft.  Hence the teardrop shape evolved. Companies like the Norwalk based Kit Manufacturing Co. sold more than 4500 Kit Kampers between 1946 & 1947.

This product became the mainstay of their business. About 35 manufacturers built teardrops untill 1961 either complete or as kits. Then the RV motor home craze kicked in. And The perception that bigger is better prevailed.
